The interesting thing about AI is that the software engineers now are trying to automate part of the job like writing code and also automating the parts that they should be doing on the result like validation, testing, code review.
And when I watched some of the AI engineer Europe talks on YouTube, I noticed also that some people started to automate the management of agents that should be developing code, which was the job of engineering manager in the first place. So that means the nerds started to automate their own job and their manager’s job
If the trend continues to be as such and goes in the same direction, there is no reason not to automate the rest of the management levels such as the director of engineering, the vice president of engineering, the senior vice president of engineering. and even the C level effectively automating all of the engineering management and execution.
And the other branches of office work such as the financing, project management, QA, everything that an organization do is not immune to automation using AI heuristics. And as the AI gets better, The automation will continue to cover more and more jobs and use cases that depends on heuristics and mental work, mainly the service industry, leading to whole organizations and maybe industries automated using AI and agents just managing and talking to each other, producing the work that used to be produced before.
With that, creating organizations could happen using only one person. Maybe even governments will start to just set goals to agents and agents will create organizations that will work towards this goal creating all the jobs and the agents personalities to achieve this goal and maybe we’ll move beyond the current financing system that all current jobs and work is part of and we’ll move into a goal oriented AI driven architecture.
As the AI started a couple years ago, it was really very basic. Could do small things as part of the job and started to take over more and more complex and larger use cases. And now it can take entry or mid-level or even senior positions and it will move on and on until it takes whole organizations and maybe Groups of organizations and we’ll have to stop and think or even we can’t stop we’ll have to just think about what is it that we are going to do in the future.
As the idea of grouping people by specialization towards a single goal, which is what organizations are for right now, we have to think about grouping and utilizing AI for the good of humanity, and start to set specific goals for society and countries, and utilize AI with agents to do the mental work. This will probably leave us with what remains that the AI can’t do right now, which is the physical work. Until, of course, automation with robotics and the merge with AI happens, which is not too far in the future. And at that point, we’ll have to think about what is it exactly that we wanted to do as countries, as societies, as humanity.
