Comparisons & Influences ¶
It gave the impression that it’s a mix of the following:
- The inverse of The Matrix: instead of the guy going from clean sterile world to the shit hole
humanity lives in outside of the matrix. in Red Rising Darrow goes the opposite way.
- Ender’s Game: Where the kid is “The one” and he’s chosen for his innate ability to lead and
conquer.
- The Hunger Games: Where the society is split into different factions each bred for a specific
job (or you can draw parallel to Brave New World)
- Harry Potter: Where Darrow joins an institute or a school where it’s split to different houses
and they have to compete for a prize.
Overall Impression ¶
In General I liked it and it hooked me the first chapter, Writing style is easy to follow and the
choice of words is pretty simple. It’s very enjoyable and I would recommend it if you’re into
Sci-Fi with a hint on military setup like Enders Game
